Discover Boulogne-sur-Mer's historical heritage
Visit Nausicaá, the biggest aquarium in Europe. A weekend can also offer you the opportunity to visit Boulogne-sur-Mer, a town charged with history and a rich architecture. After a walk along the Rampart path , you'll be able to visit Notre-Dame de Boulogne Basilica in the old town, with its 19th century crypt, the largest in France. The Castle-Museum is also well worth a visit for its listed historical building and its collections focussed on Mediterranean archaeology, extra-European ethnography and, above all, local history. Lastly, the Boulogne-sur-Mer belfry - a UNESCO world heritage site - reaches a height of 37 metres.
Weekends rich with events and outdoor activities
Boulogne-sur-Mer is a dynamic town that proposes a large number of events. There are several theatres, such as the Théâtre Monsigny, the Rollmops Théâtre and the Carré Sam, that regularly propose plays and concerts if you want a night out. The town also organises festivals and major events all year round, at fixed dates. For example, you can watch the town's Grande Fête Maritime in mid-July to discover traditional boats, go on sea outings or learn more about our maritime traditions. Boulogne-sur-Mer also hosts a number of well-known artistes each year in the setting of the Festival de la Côte d’Opale at the end of July. In September, several historical sites open their doors to allow you to take a leap into history.
Outdoor activities for a sporting weekend
There are also some really lovely beaches in Boulogne-sur-Mer, because this town is located on the Opal Coast in Nord-Pas-de-Calais. If you're looking for an activity for your children after your visit to the aquarium, you can get them to try out a bit of sand yachting just a stone's throw from Nausicaa, and also at the seaside resort of Hardelot-Plage for example. This sporting activity to be done with your family will delight kids and grown-ups alike. You can also make the most of your stay to discover other sports, such as kayaking and kitesurfing.
