The Calais Museum of Fine Arts hosts a vast collection of paintings, sculptures, watercolours, drawings and photographs dating from the 16th to the 21st century.
On the ground floor, the Rodin room, from Paris to Calais is dedicated to the works of the famous sculptor, with studies for the Monument of The Burghers of Calais.
The tour continues under the title Calais d’ici et d’ailleurs (Calais from here and elsewhere) with works by artists of great renown (Louis-Antoine Barye, Antoine Bourdelle, Anthony Caro, Germaine Richier), some of whom are from the area (Louis Francia, Henri Lhotellier, Jean Roulland).
Upstairs, visitors can discover contemporary works combined with or compared to older paintings and sculptures, evoking the tales of the English writer Lewis Carroll, Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass.
Every year, the museum organises a major temporary exhibition dedicated to audiences with an interest in all forms of art. It is accompanied by shows, events, tours and workshops for budding enthusiasts and connoisseurs alike.
